Immunological approaches for diagnosis of TB and aspergillus infections

Serological Test for the Diagnosis of TB :
The MycoTB study (NCT02898623)

TB remains a health problem in France with about 5,000 new cases per year. Hence, in Montpellier University Hospital, about 2500 patients were annually tested for TB and 50 to 60 cases were confirmed and treated. Development of new screening tests is a priority for TB. Diagnosis of TB remains a challenge. In this study adult patients with possible TB from are tested for the presence of antibodies directed against M. tuberculosis selected antigens.

Evaluation of an Innovative Tuberculosis Diagnostic Test : The PROMISE-TB study (NCT02573623)

Diagnosis of TB in young children is a challenge due to atypical non-specific symptoms, difficulty to expectorate mucus, paucibacillary nature of pulmonary TB and low sensitivity of available diagnostic tools. In this project we evaluating immunological methods based on both T cell and antibody responses for diagnosing of active TB among HIV-infected and uninfected children.
Proof-of concept has been published and patents issued for some of these tests (Carrère-Kremer S, PLoS One. 2016, Rubbo PA, J Clin Microbiol. 2012, Brust B, PLoS One. 2011; WO/2012/164088: WO/2013/087917: BR 75543/RIM DBS1546).

Analysis T Cells Response for Identification of Aspergillus Bronchitis in Patients with Cystic Fibrosis NCT02550041

This study performed in the Montpellier University Hospital asses T cell response against A. fumigatus to identify Aspergillus bronchitis in patients with cystic fibrosis.

Chantal FOURNIER-WIRTH obtained a PhD Degree in Life Sciences, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Montpellier (France) in 1999. She started her career as a researcher at the EFS (Etablissement Français du Sang) in the team directed by Dr Joliette Coste in Montpellier. The team has merged with clinicians in 2015 in a mixed research unit dedicated to the pathogenesis and control of chronic infections. She is now involved in the development and the coordination of multidisciplinary projects on diagnostic innovations.
